Wordpress Automatic Upgrade

Without doubt, this is the most time saving plugin I have ever used. As someone who looks after around 60 Wordpress blogs, keeping them up-to-date is an almost impossible task. I have blogs from Wordpress 2.1 right up to the current latest release, and this plugin as a huge time saver.

Simply upload the plugin as normal to the plugins directory, activate, and then go to “Manage”. There you will seem some very simple “Click Here” type instructions to guide you through the upgrade.

The plugin creates a backup of the database, and site files as you go through the steps, and you are given the opportunity to download these if you want to (I would recommend that you do, although I normally don’t).

The plugin de-activates all the plugins for you, and downloads the latest version of Wordpress from Wordpress.org. You will at one point be logged out so that the database can be upgraded, and you will need to log back in once this has been done.

The only problem I have ever had with this plugin, is that for some reason, it never re-activates the plugins that were active before the upgrade. This isn’t a show stopper, but is a bit annoying, especially if you have quite a few, some of which you don’t use. My advice is to take a screen grab, or write down, which ones are active before running the upgrade.

Overall this Wordpress plugin is a huge time saver, and is highly recommended.
